Why we built EchoThread

Comment platforms haven't meaningfully evolved in over a decade. The dominant players still inject ads into your comment section, track your readers across the web, and ship hundreds of kilobytes of JavaScript that tanks your page speed.

We built EchoThread because we believe site owners deserve better.

The problem with legacy comment platforms

Most embeddable comment systems were built in an era when ads and tracking were accepted as the cost of "free." Today, privacy-conscious readers use ad blockers, browsers block third-party cookies by default, and GDPR requires explicit consent for tracking. Legacy platforms haven't kept up.

Our approach

EchoThread is built from the ground up with three principles:

  • Privacy-first: No ads, no cross-site tracking, no third-party cookies. Your readers' data is never sold or shared.
  • Performance: The entire widget is under 15 KB gzipped with zero dependencies. It loads in milliseconds, not seconds.
  • Full control: A complete moderation dashboard, spam detection, and a RESTful API give you full control over your comment section.

What's included

EchoThread isn't a stripped-down MVP. It ships with threaded replies, emoji reactions, image attachments, Open Graph link preview cards, text formatting, smart sorting, spam detection, real-time notifications, Google OAuth for commenters, magic link auth for site owners, and CSS custom property theming — all in one lightweight package.

We're currently in beta and completely free to use. Create your account and add comments to your site in under a minute.
